The LG WM5500HWA is the newer, more advanced model compared to the LG WM4000HWA. While both are 4.5 cu. ft. front-load washers with a 1300 RPM spin speed and the Inverter Direct Drive Motor, the WM5500HWA offers superior technology, features, and a more premium design.

Advanced Features & Performance

The WM5500HWA includes advanced wash technology that the WM4000HWA lacks:   

• TurboWash® 360°: The WM5500HWA features this enhanced cleaning system that uses five powerful jets to spray water from multiple angles, allowing for a complete clean in under 30 minutes for an average load. The WM4000HWA has TurboWash® 360° technology as well, but the WM5500HWA’s is often noted to be more efficient and refined.   

• AI DD® (Intelligent Fabric Care): This feature uses built-in sensors on the WM5500HWA to detect fabric weight and softness, automatically selecting the optimal wash motions and settings for better fabric care and less guesswork. While the WM4000HWA does use a form of AI technology to select optimal wash settings, the WM5500HWA’s system is considered more advanced and integrated.   

• Specialized Cycles: The WM5500HWA offers a significantly broader range of customization with 25 washer programs and 15 options, including specialized cycles like Allergiene and Sanitary (which the WM4000HWA also has) plus additional custom programs. The WM4000HWA has 12 programs and 13 options.

Design and Controls

The user interface and aesthetics differ between the two models:

• Control Panel:

  • WM5500HWA: Features an LCD digital dial and touch buttons for a sleek, modern, and highly responsive user experience. The control panel has a painted steel finish.

  • WM4000HWA: Uses traditional hard buttons paired with an LED display. The control panel is made of plastic.   

• Noise Level: The WM5500HWA incorporates LoDecibel™ Quiet Operation technology, making it quieter than the WM4000HWA, which uses standard noise control.   

• Colors: The WM5500HWA is available in Graphite Steel and White, while the WM4000HWA is available in Black Steel and White.

In short, the LG WM5500HWA is the step-up model, offering a more premium look, quieter operation, and more advanced intelligent wash features. The LG WM4000HWA is a reliable, solid performer that is generally more budget-friendly.
